    David,

I noticed your editorial in the Sea Times. I followed your link and am not surprised to find that less than 30 people have read and responded to you. Why is no one reading your blog? Is it that your editorial was, to be very polite, a bit of a stretch?

Comparing Columbia to 1914 CO? Really? The people of Columbia are free to leave the country, free to use a currency of their choice, able to program the music of their choice on radio stations. Need I go on?

Have you done any stories about leftists kissing Chavez's rear end? How about Danny Glover or Sean Penn bowing down to and taking money from a dictator that is following the Communist playbook: suppressing opposition, killing protesters, rigging elections, shutting down the press, etc. Chavez is actually forcing radio stations to play state mandated hours of Ven. music every day.
That would actually be interesting. That is the story the media is not telling us about.
Columbia is not perfect. The surrounding countries seem to be a little worse. But hey, you'd never miss a reason to beat up Bush would you?

The only reason Chavez is strong is one word: OIL. America happily goes to wars for oil and yet sneer at truly renewable alternatives that are both economically and ecologically helpful such as solar, wind, better quality biofuels such as algae, hemp, switchgrass, etc... . As for corporations, of course, they'll pay less of their fair share thanks to loopholes and OBSCENELY "generous" tax breaks to corporate that say FUCK YOU to the employees and/or customers.

If America were allowed to grow its own oil from hemp and if those phony patents and buyouts from Big Oil weren't allowed, Chavez would be toast. But let's face it. As long as half the road traffic consists of gas guzzling SUVs, pickup trucks, and hummers most of which have only one drive in them, talk about extreme individualists, you're empowering Chavez.
