Senate Makes Move on Toxic Imports
On the same day CAF released its report on the Consumer Products Safety Commission and NAFTA-style trade deals, we get this off the wire:
"Oct. 30 (Bloomberg) -- A Senate panel voted to overhaul and boost funding for the Consumer Product Safety Commission while House Democrats called for the agency's head to resign, saying her opposition to the changes proves she's unfit for the job. The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee backed by voice vote the measure to raise fines on companies selling unsafe products in the first overhaul of laws governing the agency in 17 years. Business groups and the Bush administration oppose the proposal in part because of a provision giving state attorneys general the authority to enforce federal safety laws."
This is great news.

Discussion
Now there needs to be a public outcry in support of this measure, because Dubya will veto it, and it will have to go through with a veto-proof majority.
Every legislator in Washington DC needs to be reminded that they represent PEOPLE NOT CORPORATIONS!
