Emanuel to Sirota on Trade: Go Cheney Yourself
Earlier this week the Politico reported that Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) responded to a reporter's inquiry about whether he supports lobbying reform by pulling his best Dick Cheney impression and telling the reporter to "Go f___ yourself." Coincidentally (or not) I received something of the same treatment from Emanuel in response to my ongoing coverage of the secret trade deal that Emanuel yesterday blocked a formal Democratic debate on. I received an email from Emanuel's spokesperson telling me that I "may disagree with Rahm's position on many issues and we don't necessarily care that that is the case." What's funny/pathetic is that Emanuel (or at least his staff) seems to see the trade issue which affects the entire globe, which the American public is deeply concerned about and which was a central piece of the 2006 election as some sort of personal rivalry between lawmakers like him and writers like me. How hilarious/sad it is when Washington insiders get such a bad case of Potomac Fever that they lose all touch with reality. Again, it's reminiscent of Cheney, who in response to questions about the war said that the American public's opinion doesn't matter. Apparently, America's opposition to lobbyist written trade policy is something that leaders like Emanuel "don't necessarily care" about.

Discussion
Well all this means is that Emanuel and his fellow crooks want to get on the corporate bandwagon and fill their pockets with blood money.
Emmanuel wants to GET on the bandwagon???
Emmanuel has been ON the bandwagon for quite a while.
As a long-standing Republi-lite, he's just now really coming out of the closet about it.
Emmanuel is one of the bad guys but not the only one. Pelosi and Hoyer IMO are the principal bad guys who need to be removed ASAP before they send the Democratic party into the abyss in '08 with their DLC/K street strategies.
Because this trade deal stands a good chance of driving away the independents and disgruntled GOPers that put the Democrats into the majority and if they stay home in '08 the Democrats will get hammered.
That said, the rank and file democrats need learn to how to kick out corrupt democrats like Emmanuel and Pelosi and not just send letters and emails. The latter shit doesn't work with folks who get bags of money from WallStreet.
But its doubtful considering that Democrats like the GOP put a heavy premium on party loyalty.
If you doubted the import of your work or the impact of your efforts after '06, this should clear that up for you.
Who else is pounding the pulpit on this one? If it wasn't for you, the K Street sellouts would have snuck this through without a hitch.
What influence can the Progressive State's Network bring to bear on this one? This nut is going to have to be cracked from the strength within the party. The corruption is occurring at the top. It seems, like Cheney, these folks believe their position is so secure that they can ignore the conscience of their own party. At least they want you to believe that.
I think their hold is far more tenuous, and relies entirely on secrecy.
This spat with Emanuel needs as much exposure as possible. HuffPost should be running this blog entry.
Do not cease with the pressure.
David why won't Huffpost run your articles? they've been pretty good about it before unlike those party hacks at Dkos.
This really needs to get out because it threatens the country and has the potential to gut the Democratic party like NAFTA did. I just wish the liberal blogosphere didn't have its head up its collectivist ass and took a real hard look at whats controlling and poisoning the democratic party.
Thanks for reporting this corruption - because the MSM won't!
Why is Rahm Emanuel getting so defensive?
Why is he afraid to discuss lobbying reform?
Why the secret back room trade deal with Bush?
Why is he being so authoritarian in trying to prevent debate and quell dissent regarding this secret trade deal?
I can only surmise that he is putting the the interests of Big Money before those of American citizens. Shameful!
Please keep reporting things that the MSM won't.
