Dem Caucus Discussing Secret Trade Deal At Caucus Meeting Today

As a reminder, House Democrats are holding a caucus meeting today to discuss the secret free trade deal announced late last week. The legislative language of the deal remains under wraps, and rank-and-file Democrats have been kept in the dark about the deal. The caucus meeting is in response to a group of fair trade populist Democrats demanding an open debate on trade - one of the major issues that led to the Democratic victories of 2006. Democratic leaders previously rebuffed a request for this kind of meeting before they announced the deal. It's not clear what will come out of this meeting - stay tuned, I'll post if I hear anything news-worthy.

Nice work on your Lou Dobbs appearance Monday, Mr. Sirota. Your composure in the face of the ludicrous time constraints you were put under was outstanding. Gracious, succinct, and not a whiff of vitriol.

It felt like Dobbs was stammering all over himself with regret after he lost control of his time with that Sharpton interview (which produced nothing useful at all, sigh). It seemed like he wanted to toss you a bunch of softballs but knew he had screwed himself. I guess any time on this message is good.

Are you the only person covering this? Half of Huffpost's contributors can go apoplectic about Don Imus but you're left holding the only warning sign on this crucial, fundamental issue? One of the three issues that got the Democrats their majorities?

Nothing in the MSM, nothing in the blogosphere... Are you that cutting edge? Or do others not get it?

Senators Sanders, Tester, and Webb may need to start firing public broadsides if this isn't killed behind closed caucus doors, and it won't be. The sellouts are not going to want to deal with Webb carpet-bombing them like he did Bush after the State of the Union.

IMO the liberal blogosphere is not covering this particular issue is out of party loyalty/hackery. They've turned a blind eye to the gross betrayal by the party leadership on one the very issues that got the Democrats their majority.

That said, I've never seen any of the major democratic/liberal blogs ever much coverage to issues like off-shoring and "free" trade over the last 4 years.

Social(like gay marriage and abortion) and foreign policy issues get the most attention, while the country hemmorages jobs by the millions only gets a occasional nod.
