AT&T Loves Right-Wing Extremists
Top 10 reasons not to switch to AT&T

Who does your phone company support? If you're with AT&T, you should know that AT&T is one of the largest corporate contributors to Congress. And though AT&T has been eager to assure everyone lately that its continued growth will only mean good things for its customers, AT&T isn't in a rush to mention that it has regularly contributed to politicians with a far right-wing agenda.

See our list below of the top 10 reasons that progressives should avoid AT&T. Then make the switch to CREDO Mobile and fight with us for phone-powered progressive change.

  1. AT&T has given more than $794,000 to House and Senate Tea Party Caucus members from 2009–2012.

  2. AT&T gave $562,739 to former presidential candidate and right-wing Gov. Rick Perry of Texas from 2000–2012. AT&T also spent $18,349 to sponsor a lunch at a conservative summit and distribute 700 copies of Fed Up!, Perry's book which contains some of his most extreme ideas.

  3. AT&T has given nearly $2 million to the Republican Governors Association (RGA), about the same amount donated to the RGA by the infamous Koch Brothers and their companies. The RGA has helped elect governors who have cracked down on unions and gutted environmental regulations—while preserving corporate tax loopholes.

  4. AT&T is one of the top 10 donors to Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, known for his deceptive anti-union tactics, which prompted one million voters to sign petitions for a recall election.

  5. AT&T gave the maximum contribution to George W. Bush's presidential campaign in 2000 and then to the Bush-Cheney campaign in 2004—and contributed $1 million to the George W. Bush Foundation to help build his presidential library.

  6. AT&T contributed to every Republican presidential nominee since 1996: Bob Dole, George W. Bush, the Bush-Cheney campaign and John McCain. It has not contributed to a Democratic presidential nominee since 1988.

  7. AT&T was the national corporate chair in 2011 for the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), which drafts and promotes right-wing state legislation that is anti-worker, erodes voting rights and slashes corporate taxes. AT&T has given ALEC more than $150,000 in the last two years.

  8. AT&T contributed $100,000 to the Heartland Institute, a leading promoter of climate-science denial as well as denial of the effects of second-hand smoke.

  9. AT&T throws fundraisers and "receptions" that "honor" some of our nation's most odious politicians, including environmental outlaw Sen. David Vitter, viciously anti-Muslim Rep. Pete King, and Tea Party Ten conservative Rep. Dan Lungren.

  10. CREDO Mobile will help you get out of your contract with AT&T (or any other phone company) by crediting your CREDO account up to $350 per line (for up to three lines) to offset any early termination fee you may have to pay.*
