    Thank You, John Bates

A Federal district judge, appointed by George Bush in 2001, today ruled that former White House counsel Harrier Miers must appear before the House Judiciary to answer questions about the politically motivated firings of U.S. Attorneys. This may eventually bring to an end the successful stonewalling of the White House, which simply directs current and former staffers not to appear, let alone answer questions which might reveal illegal or questionable activities.

In the decision, Judge Bates was rebuking both the White House and the Justice Department, as Attorney General Mukasey (supported as AG by Sen. Schumer as a reformer!) refused to enforce the House Judiciary Committee summons.
