DOJ Announces Investigation into Corrupt Prosecution of Don Siegelman
Many of you probably caught the 60 Minutes story back in February about the highly-suspect conviction of former Alabama governor Don Siegelman on bribery charges. The case simply reeked of selective and politically-driven prosecution, and well-founded rumors placed Karl Rove and his minions in the middle of it all.
So we here at CREDO picked this issue up, and in our April phone bills, urged our customers to send a letter to Dept. of Justice Counsel H. Marshall Jarrett and ask that he launch an investigation of apparent political motives in the selective prosecution of Siegelman.
Almost 20,000 of our customers sent hard-copy letters to Counsel Jarrett over the past several weeks...and just this morning, it was revealed that he has in fact initiated an investigation into the Siegeleman case from the DOJ's Office of Professional Responsibility.
Career professionals -- at least those that George Bush and his minions haven't yet purged -- still do apparently take politicization of the DOJ's prosecutorial functions quite seriously. It will be very interesting to find out what this investigation uncovers.
(For CREDO customers, this month's Citizen Letters ask Congress to endorse the Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq, and support a moratorium on new coal-fired power plants until their climate-changing CO2 emissions can be permanently sequestered. Please click here to order one or both letters, and we'll get them in the mail right away!)
