When Did You Know How Bad the Bush Administration Would Be?

Early in the Bush Administration, I was prone to ruining dinner parties by asserting that history would judge this time as one when the White House was taken over by criminals, who were systematically and relentlessly looting the treasury, abusing the Justice Department and generally doing unimaginable harm that would eventually be described as criminal. I suspect my attitude was seen as a bit too dark at the time.

I think I realized just how bad it might be when Republican operatives - many of them young male House staffers on leave from their public duty - swarmed the West Palm Beach office where votes were being recounted in November 2000 and physically intimidated election officials until they halted the counting. Their masters fully understood what was at stake and went for it.

    How about you?

When Bush was elected - the first time - I knew this country was headed down the slippery slop to you know where. I was so upset I tried to move to Canada. Unfortunately, they had tightened immigration requirements even more stingent than the USA and I wasn't successful. It's heartbreaking seeing just how correct my intuition was/is.

Worse yet, no matter who gets into the White House this time around, they are stuck with the awful aftermath of B&B!
