How the Iowa Caucus is Starving People
For the last few weeks, the press has rediscovered hunger around the world, with food riots in too many countries too count. The reason - massive price increases on the most basic of foods - particularly rice, corn, and wheat. All have more than doubled. Poor people in Haiti are reduced to eating dirt mixed with vegetable oil.
One of the reasons - the rapid shift by American farmers to switch farmland to growing corn in order to sell to make ethanol. Why? Not because it is efficient or helps with global warming, but because pandering politicians are subsidizing ethanol to the tune of literally billions of dollars.
Why? One big reason. Iowa grows corn and the Iowa caucuses are the first in the presidential primary season. So candidates of both parties pander, knowing full well that growing corn to drive cars rather than feed people is a bad idea.
