Governor Paterson Rejects Long Island LNG Terminal

Last June, nearly 900 CREDO New York customers said no to an LNG Terminal of the coast of Long Island Sound by sending letters to Governor Spitzer. Unfortunately, he never took action to project Long Island, but Governor Paterson has made protecting Long Island a high priority and blocked the first floating LNG terminal in the country. The proposed Long Island Sound Broadwater LNG Terminal would have been ten stories tall and four football fields long. Flaws in this plan were myriad. Anchorage for the facility would damage the fragile marine ecosystem. A broad safety zone around the terminal would curtail fishing and boating. An LNG fire would be a disaster. Security costs will run into millions of dollars annually with taxpayers potentially paying the entire tab. The terminal will delay alternative-energy projects and reinforce our dependence on imported fuel.

Governor Paterson is already speaking up for the environment. Thanks to hundreds of letters from CREDO members Long Island Sound will not have a destructive LNG Terminal.
