Really, why should we believe ANYTHING this Administration says? If these wiretaps were so important, why didn't the FBI pay their bills?

Thank you Colbert for putting a little humor into this insidious situation. This is a serious matter...........however, sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying. There is no question that this "Protect America Act" is a cover to let the Bush administration sweep their sins under the carpet. Just watch this fool, and pay attention to his shit eating grin talk to us about keeping us secure.

Why are people so vague of mind as to think that this administration would try to take apart the very country that it is administrating? It don't make sense. If there ever was an administration that was trying to take it's own country down, it would have been the Clinton administration since he wouldn't go after Al Queda and Bin Laden when he knew exactly where they and the majority of their training camps after they tried to blow up the World Trade Centers with the bomb trucks and the USS Cole. Clinton acted like he wanted to talk about it, but at least Bush went after them like a good leader who cares about his country. And there are a few of us that know for a fact that there have been quite a few more attempts been thwarted by the wiretapping surveillance that arm chair hero wannabes are complaining about. I guess that they would rather lose a few thousand more of our kin and children, like the WTC 9-11 incident, like Clinton, than to allow wiretapping when they shouldn't be worried about someone hearing what they say, since they are such good citizens. [or are they?] People are starting to really try to bring into life, all the 'drama' movies and TV shows they have been absorbed in. It's pathetic to see people losing their reality so badly... playing 'Hollywood' in 'real life'. But I guess it was bound to happen when people live in such luxury that they have to 'find something to do' to occupy their time. It would be funny if it weren't so pathetic.

Frank, This is how it starts. A government ready to take peoples rights from them in the name of security. The arrogance with which the government acts exceed that of the Nixon administration. Power corrupts and history will demonstrate that this admistration was truly corrupted by its grab for power. Yes Bush acted and from what we are hearing it has only made matters worse. Much of Afganistan is controlled by warlords growing opium, the reduction of violence may have to do with an inability to report it, rather then a true reduction in violence, Bush still does not have Osama Bin Laden, nor has he determined who caused the anthrax scar in Washington. In fact this is a failed administration in almost every aspect of government. A large deficit, another recession, the Middle East in worse shape than when he came into office, Oil Prices and inflation rising causing more hardship for the middle class and poor. All in all this has been the worst economy for the middle class and poor in years.

Guess Frank is a wee bit out of touch with reality himself. Any other president would have released some of the oil reserves in order to level out the cost of oil. Instead Mr. Bush has made still anoter idiotic move of BUILDING the reserves. I drive a truck, owner/op.....went to help with the Katrina relief. I came out of that one NEEDING relief. I was NOT contracted to FEMA, thereby buying my own fuel, not the government buying it for me. The fuel prices escalated to $3.50 per gallon back then.....just where it is now...today, only today it's closer $4.00 for diesel. Anyone hear anything about the meetings (closed, even to media) held with the fuel companies? NOPE! And you won't....because the fat cats are getting fatter and fatter over it. In case anyone hasn't noticed, you rights have been stripped from you an inch at a time. Now your privacy is being legally invaded. Remember the seat belt deal? No ticket unless stopped for something else? Right...now they ticket you if they THINK they didn't see it on you....and black on black doesn't show up, right? Smoking....another story altogether...and California is making regulations so fast that even the manufacturers can't keep up with it. Trying to pass laws where you can't smoke in your house, or your vehicle.......I don't know what you folks call it......recession, depression....I call it dictatorship and communism. Sure looking that way more and more. Mr. Bush excepted our Constitution more times in his administration than in ALL of our history. Better take a harder look at his BIG push to make our country part of Canada....and worse yet....Mexico. 3rd world country....here we come! And Communistic to boot!

Oh, and BTW, recj50....I'd bet that Bush knows exactly where Bin Laden is.......check some history of this USA and his family. How come nothing was allowed to fly during 9-11 BUT the family of Bin Laden was secretly flown out of our country the same night, at taxpayers expense? That had to come from a top dog somewhere! They know where he is.....if they can tap YOUR cellphone, while you're moving.....and track YOU down.....hmmmmmm

Hey Frankie Boy. You forget that the administration had alot the info they needed on the 9-11 attack. At least one FBI agent tried to bring some of info about the terrorists taking the flight lessons, but no one listened! There was plenty of other info but because of the no info sharing between the CIA/FBI etc., no one ever put it together. By the way, don't forget they CAN tap the phone and go to the FISA court AFTER the fact and get the warrant they needed. So all this "the democrats are putting us in danger" crap is nothing more the Karl Rovian fear mongering. Now that's pathetic. And please don't use the terms "Bush" and "good leader" in the same sentence. He has done more to harm America than any president in the last 100 years.

These two quotes by Ben Franklin say it all.

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

Anyone who trades liberty for security deserves neither liberty nor security.
