    Making a difference in '08

Like many of you, we are hopeful that our national nightmare may be coming to an end after long years of heartache and frustration. (Did you know you can text "W" into our short code 30644 and get the days, hours, minutes and seconds Bush has left in office?)

When voters go to the polls on November 4, 2008 -- just a year away -- it will be a watershed election for America. The stakes are profound for the country and the causes we all believe in -- the environment, freedom of speech, an end to unjust war, and a woman's right to choose.

What are our plans for Nov. 4, 2008? At CREDO Action our plans are evolving but they include:

    * Raising over $1 milllion for nonpartisan efforts to register African Americans, low-income people and single women.

    * Helping over two million young people fill out registration applications online via an innovative widget and API powered by CREDO Action and Rock the Vote.

    * Recruiting thousands of pollworkers to make sure that come Election Day every eligible citizen can cast a ballot that counts.

    * Using innovative strategies like text messaging to help turnout young people who may have never voted before

    * Changing state laws to make it easy to register and vote on Election Day

    The list goes on.

What are you doing to make a difference on Election Day?

I'll be working with our political team at CREDO Action to leverage the Iraq war issue to get people to the polls!

  • I'll probably be in Ohio, making sure young voters turn out to the polls to change our government from conservative to progressive. And then later, well into the next day, I'll be celebrating with Drinking Liberally.

Last year, Working Assets helped support a program called "Party at the Polls" -- community-oriented festivities near polling stations that helped drive voter turnout.

Not sure where I'll be next year, but I want to have a party at the polls as a way of creating a social, upbeat environment around our civic involvement.

(...and I'll be sure to have a party after the polls as well as we watch the results come in!)
