    Widgets and Pink Bunnies!

I've blogged several times over the last few months about the new online voter registration widget we're launching with Rock the Vote. If you didn't catch it before, the gist is that this is a completely portable application that anyone can post on their website. Then, their site users can fill out a voter registration application right there, without ever having to leave the site.

Like I said, anyone can sign up and get the widget. Even you! Get started today at www.registertovoteonline.org.

Whether you help two voters fill out registration applications or two million, every widget is a vital piece of our voter registration drive -- and it will be the largest voter registration drive ever -- as we approach the 2008 elections.

The widget is revolutionary because it puts the power of the campaign in the hands of thousands of users who can run their own registration drives, using their unique skills and perspectives to reach the people they know best.

Today, I realized things were taking off when I read about this campaign by Forward Montana. They were one of the early adopters of the widget, and now they're using it as a part of their Pink Bunnies campaign to encourage people who have moved to re-register at their current address so they can receive their vote-by-mail ballots. Check out their oh-so-cute video.

That's the power of Web 2.0. I doubt we at Working Assets would have ever thought to use pink bunnies in a voter registration campaign. But we built a tool that helped those clever folks in Montana leverage more power from their creative idea. That's one more way we're making it easy to make a difference.
