Californians: Stop Tax Breaks for Corporations
Will the California legislature ever pass a budget? I have asked myself that same question. Since June 15, the stalemate in Sacramento has been astonishing. Republicans refuse to allow passage of a budget without corporate tax breaks, which means they have proposed over a billion dollars in cuts to human services, environment and transporation. The Democrats in the Assembly allowed such a proposal to be passed, but the State Senate has stood its ground. We can't allow our legislature to pander to corporate interests while at the same time cutting critical funding to the Californians that need it most.
Governor Schwarzenegger finally chimed in on Friday and told the legislature to pass a budget or current transporation projects will cease. Last week, over 5,000 California Working Assets activists told their state senators not to allow corporate giveaways. We need to keep the pressure on. If you live in California email your State Senator today and tell them to approve a budget compromise that ensures funding for education, health care assistance, and the environment -- without tax cuts for corporations.
