George Tenet, Give Back Your Medal

Political circles are all abuzz lately with the latest revelations contained in former CIA Director George Tenet's new book, At the Center of the Storm.

(Progressives might not be all that surprised, however, with the contents of the book. Most of us could see from the outside how the "intelligence" -- such as aluminum tubes, mobile trailers, and Judith Miller's reliance on a source named "Curveball" -- was being distorted to justify a decision that had already been made.)

In any case, what's most notably absent from Tenet's book, and his appearance on "60 Minutes" last night, is any sense of personal responsibility whatsoever. Tenet portrays himself as a victim of intra-administration scheming...but the reality is that he probably could have stopped the invasion before it even started by taking his doubts public.

Several former CIA officials have now written an open letter to Mr. Tenet excoriating his failure to take responsibility...and we're now joining in their call for Tenet to make amends: Mr. Tenet, return your Medal of Honor, and donate your book royalties to charity.
