Experts to Rangel: Find Another Myth To Justify Selling Out to K Street
Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D-NY), among others, has been telling reporters that he wants to support President Bush's request for fast track trade negotiating authority in order to let the Doha international trade negotiations go forward because, he says, Doha is specifically designed to help poor people in the developing world and he supports that. Thankfully, Tufts University has obliterated that myth today.
As Public Citizen's Eyes on Trade shows, a new report from Tufts University's Global Development and Environment Institute shows that at the Doha round, "rich countries are projected to receive an embarrassing 25 times the per-capita gains of developing countries." Tufts' conclusion, thus, is that "extending the President's trade promotion authority to complete an agreement so hostile to true economic development and so inefectual in reducing global poverty would be a sad mistake."
So, now that that's out of the way, what excuse for doing K Street's bidding on trade is next, Congressman Rangel?

The unemployment rate for African American males is 9%. Women - 6.2%, and teenagers 25% (with only 65% being counted as being "in the labor force").
Three million Americans have lost jobs in manufacturing since 2000.
That's many SUFFERING AMERICANs and Rep. Rangel says he is worried about countries half-way around the world.
Princeton economist Alan Blinder, who was vice chairman of the Federal Reserve during the Clinton administration, says the number of jobs at risk of being shipped out of the country could reach 40 million over the next 10 to 20 years.
Rep. Rangel - put AMERICANS FIRST. That's your job. That's what you were elected to do.
Yeah, him and Maxie Bacchus. They're both so Republi-lite, they're even combining their campaign chests.
Fire the Republi-lites!
That includes the Queen of Republi-lites and Republi-lite Junior.
